LINLITHGOW LOCH
The loch is now in very good condition, the short bloom of algal bloom has pretty well cleared, and as far as the weed goes, most areas are now fishable This means that the fish are well spread and best tactics are top of the water in the drift. Best flies are still Diawl Bachs, crunchers and blobs, with a lot of Browns coming in up to three lbs, mostly returned. Despite variable winds and heavy rain, Earlston AC managed 24 fish for 50lbs; ABC & D AC had 30 fish for 50lbs. Willie Sterrick, a regular all the way from Peebles, had 6 fish for 15lbs, five of them Browns; Ian Dobbie from Grangemouth had 6 fish for 17lbs on Diawl Bachs; Mr Scott and partner from Falkirk had 11 fish for 34lbs. We continue to stock Rainbows and Browns and it is good to see the Browns settling so well.

The weed in the loch is now retreating fast and this coupled with very clear water is making for excellent, if testing fishing.
Parts of the bank are now fishable once more.
- Regular bank angler, Jimmy Anderson had his limit on Daiwl Bachs.
- Inchinnan AC, with six boats, had 36 fish for 92 lbs;
- Perth RASC AC, with three boats, had a good day with 24 fish for 48lbs.
- Ian Muckle had five fish for 15lbs.
- Mr Bradshaw from Falkirk had four fish for 15lbs on an Senior Citizen concession ticket.
Best lines are still floaters and Midge Tip, with Diawl Bachs, buzzers and snatchers, and mini cats the best flies.
Fry feeding trout are still being caught on Minkies and Floating Fry imitations. Graham Laurie. (09.08.09) For further information / bookings please telephone the Lodge 01506 671753 or email >

As I write (mid July) our seasonal weed problem has reached it’s peak and is now starting to break up. The weed is not all bad; it does have its advantages, it tends to push the fish into the deeper water so that whether we can catch them or not, at least we know where they are.
The water itself is very clear and we are experiencing massive shoals of Braise and Perch Fry – Braise being the local name for Roach – these are being targeted by the larger grown on Trout who in turn are being targeted by Anglers skilled with the floating line and minkie. Otherwise. the usual Buzzers; Diawl Bachs and PTNs are still working well and the good old orange blob continues to take its fair share of fish.
We decided this year to stock a couple of tanks of Browns – about 600 fish, these have settled in well and a good number of the 1½ - 2lb range have been caught and mostly returned.
- A wild Brown Trout of 5.5lbs was caught by Derek Cochrane and Jim Anderson had another at 3lbs.
- Typical bags have been Leith Fly Fishers with 4 Boats had 24 fish for 54lbs with six Browns returned;
- Bridge of Allan AC had 20 fish for 49lbs;
- Mr Harkness and partner had 12 for 38lbs;
- Cowdenbeath AC had 59 for 149lbs
- Mr Dobbie had 6 fish for 19lb with 3 Browns returned.
We continue to stock on a weekly basis. |
