Up to this point in the season, the fish per rod average is 2.5 fish per rod;   this figure does not include released fish of which there are many.
A realistic figure would be nearer four fish rather than 2.5.

This week so far there has been a couple of Specimen Browns.

One of  4lbs and another around 3.5lbs.
Both were taken on Diawl Bachs;      and Mr Norman Copeman, Falkirk had 11lb Rainbow.

Tight Lines

The loch fished well over the last week.
Gibby Scott and partner had 9 fish for 25lbs, including a perfect Brown of 3lbs.

On Saturday, Northfield AC had 46 fish for 110lbs;   Polton Inn Fly Fishers, with five boats, had 21 fish for 52lbs and Flannigans AC, with four boats, had 24 fish for 55lbs.
On Sunday Glenfarg AC could only manage 9 fish for 22lbs – this with four boats and in tricky conditions.    Jim Russell, from Longcroft, and his partner John Temporal managed to catch their full day boat limit of 14 fish for 34lbs.

Best flies are still Diawl Bachs fished on floating or midge tips, although some fish are showing an interest in buzzers again.
Best lures still Blobs and Dancers.
The weed situation is improving, but we advise our anglers to ask the boatmen

Due to the holiday season, the loch is a bit quieter at the moment.   This is no bad thing as it allows stocks to build up again for the back end fishing.   The weed is a bit of a problem round the shallows but there is plenty fishable water including some areas of the East end.   Water clarity is very good and most anglers have been doing well.

BP AC with four boats had 20 fish for 46lbs, and on the same day Mr Robert McGregor had a cracking 9lb Rainbow.    Dalzell AC had 24 fish for 54lbs;   Mr Dempster on a full day ticket had 7 fish for 25lbs including another superb fish of 10lb 4oz;   Grangemouth Railway AC managed 14fish and this included another double figure rainbow at 11lb 8oz.

The fish are off  buzzers at the moment.  Diawl Bachs – PTNs – Crunchers and GRHE nymphs – on midge tip lines are doing best, with Blobs and Dancers pulled on an Intermediate line the best lures

The hot bright days of last week put the fish down a bit so most anglers targeted them with boobies and lures on sinking lines.   Buzzers fished almost static on long leaders are also doing well.   With the weed being up, we advise anglers to row out the first hundred yards from the jetty before starting engines.

On Friday on an evening session Grangemouth AC – who know the water well – managed 43 fish for 88lbs.   This included an 8lb fish for Ian McLaren.   On Saturday Winchburgh AC – with three boats – had 18 fish for 38lbs, including a superb 4lb Brown and a 51/2lb Brown, which was returned;   Dollar AC with four boats managed 30 fish for 77lbs, including 2 Browns of  31/2 and 21/2 lbs.   On Sunday evening, Jim Russell and partner, from Longcroft managed 13 fish for 28lbs.  [this on a full day permit which allows Seven Fish per Rod]

The loch has had a good week with some excellent fish caught. A gentleman with Scotsman Pensioners had a superb brace of fish for 16lbs, the heaviest being 10lb;   Geordie Black from Condorrat also had a 16lb brace with again his heaviest being 10lb.   He took his fish on a pin head daddy.   Ken Wood from North Berwick had a minted Rainbow at 11lb 3oz.

The clubs mostly did well – Midlothian AC – with four boats had 26 fish for 55lbs; Motogart AC also with 4 boats had 30 fish for 60lbs;   Hedgehogs AC with three boats, had 22 fish for 46lbs- Best fish 6lbs.    Good fish are still being taken at the top end of the water, but because of the weed growth the washing line is the best bet.   Water clarity is still very good and best flies are still Buzzers; Diawl Bachs and Hare Lug nymphs.   Best Lures are Damsels and Blobs.
