Despite rumours to the contrary, the loch will open as usual on Monday 15th March 2010.
Persistent Algal Bloom throughout the winter did give cause for concern. However with this in mind, before stocking began – we decided to do a test fish. This was done last Thursday. Our two intrepid Anglers, Ian Dobbie and Keith Anderson, had to force the boat through ice to reach clear water along the North Bank.
In a relatively short session they had managed to land Five Rainbows and also dropped two fish each. All fish in absolute mint condition and weighing 4 – 5lbs each. This proves two things to us – the loch is perfectly fishable and the large stock of fish left in last year have successfully overwintered.
We will add 3000lbs of our usual quality rainbows in the next two weeks then our normal weekly stocking program will begin.
Incidentally, Keith fished a two booby long leader setup with a DI5 line and Ian went for a minkie with a midge tip. The fish were not lying deep

The season will open on Monday 15th March, and as well as the overwintered fish - which normally make excellent sport at the beginning of each season, we will start our weekly stocking programme on Thursday 4th March. This will give us two stockings before the start of the season. We are aware that there has been some concerns raised by Anglers about the condition of the water, and we have been keeping a watch on the situation over the close season. The loch was frozen over for a few weeks and in the last few days the water clarity has improved, and is clear now down to a depth of up to 18" in some parts. Linlithgow Loch is part of a - Site of Special Scientific Interet - SSSI, and as such any treatment of the water would require everyone involved to decide and agree on any appropriate action. Bookings came in exceptionally early this year, and sees weekends right up to the end of June almost completed booked. Weekdays are available and from 1st May our FULL Day and evening sessions will start. The bookings calendar has been completed as an indication of availability and is of course subject to change at short notice, so it is always worth a phone call to the lodge to check the up to the minute situation once the season starts.

LINLITHGOW LOCH
The loch is now in very good condition, the short bloom of algal bloom has pretty well cleared, and as far as the weed goes, most areas are now fishable This means that the fish are well spread and best tactics are top of the water in the drift. Best flies are still Diawl Bachs, crunchers and blobs, with a lot of Browns coming in up to three lbs, mostly returned. Despite variable winds and heavy rain, Earlston AC managed 24 fish for 50lbs; ABC & D AC had 30 fish for 50lbs. Willie Sterrick, a regular all the way from Peebles, had 6 fish for 15lbs, five of them Browns; Ian Dobbie from Grangemouth had 6 fish for 17lbs on Diawl Bachs; Mr Scott and partner from Falkirk had 11 fish for 34lbs. We continue to stock Rainbows and Browns and it is good to see the Browns settling so well.
