Large amounts of rising fish have been reported over the last week. These are being targeted successfully with a short leader – floating line and lightweight buzzers. The fish are pretty well spread out over the loch and when not rising are best fished for by the usual favourite methods for this time of year. Floating and sink tip lines with buzzers; diawl bach; hare’s lug nymphs; PTNs and the usual mix of lures and boobies.
Several Angling Clubs had very successful outings - one on an evening session – 23 fish for 56lbs; John O’Hara and partner had 8 fish for 20lbs; Falkirk FC had 32 fish for 88lbs; SSEB AC had 47 fish for 108lbs; Bridge Inn AC had 58 fish for 107lbs, including three browns to 4lb. On Sunday three fish over 6lbs were reported as well as a good sprinkling of Blues and Browns.
We continue to stock on a weekly basis |

The loch continues to fish well with buzzers – black, brown and apple green - fished on a floating line being the best method. The fish are lying fairly high in the water (4 – 5ft). The anglers who prefer lures are doing ok with a dark olive damsel being the favourite.
The fish are in superb condition. Geordie Black had six fish for 18lbs George Peline, who comes through regularly from Glasgow had, along with his partner, 12 fish for 37 lbs. Most of the clubs at the weekend did well. Edinburgh PO had 38 fish for 108lbs – best fish 7lb 4oz; Aberdour AC had 47 fish for 127lbs and Midlothian AC managed 36 fish for 97lbs.
We continue to stock on a weekly basis

The cold East winds continue on the loch.
Bob Smith, now retired, kept meticulous records regarding catches in various wind conditions, and he found – in a ten year survey – that the loch fished best – but only slightly – in an East wind, but only if the wind prevailed for a day or two.
The same goes for other winds. If the wind settles so will the fish. In the last ten days the wind has settled a bit and the fishing has improved. We have no shortage of fish and continue to stock our usual weekly amount. The fish are now well spread out over the loch and are not lying deep. They are now really switched on to buzzers black; brown and apple green have been doing best, and still on Floaters or Midge Tip lines
Chief killing flies are Diawl Bachs and Snatchers. The Damsel Nymph should also now be coming into its own.
Typical bags have included Falkirk Fly Dressers with 6 boats had 43 fish for 114lbs; Hedgehogs AC had 24 fish for 65lbs; Rosyth Civil Service AC had 91 fish for 204lbs. The bank is still fishing well with most Anglers getting their bag limit. Jimmy Anderson had a superb six and a half pounder and John O’Hara had an overwintered 9lb fish. The Brown Trout seem to be sulking at the moment, but a wee bit of heat should bring them up

The first month of the season has gone very well. When the ice finally melted, taking with it most of the algal bloom, we were left with a loch full of overwintered fish practically untouched by cormorants and in superb condition.
Quite a few double figure rainbows have been landed – remember we do not stock fish this size. These are grown on – and many in the 4 – 7lb range. The Browns we stocked at the back end have also done well and are now reaching the 4lbs. The fish are pretty well spread out over the loch, but we advise anglers to prospect the top or east end of the loch. A lot of the overwintered fish lie in the shallower water. Once you pass the Ricker Island the deepest water is about 10ft square and can be covered with a floater or Midge Tip.
Best flies are still cormorants; diawl bachs and snatchers with buzzers now coming in to their own as well. Various mini lures will usually do well. We continue to stock heavily on a basis.
Typical bags have been Jim Russell and partner had 12 fish for 35lbs; Mr Craig and partner 12 fish for 30lbs; Canmore AC, with six boats, had 43 fish for 120lbs; Jimmy Anderson, on his OAP bank ticket, had his two fish limit for 10lbs and Falkirk Fly Dressers – with 6 boats had 54 fish for 145lbs
