I am pleased to report that our new season started on the 1st March 2021. This is a fortnight earlier than the traditional 15th March opening. In preparation we pre-stocked with a large amount of our usual quality rainbows and will continue to stock, on a regular basis throughout the season. The loch is in very good heart at the moment and water clarity is very good. The weather for the opening week has been cold and settled which makes for good fishing. Some very good catches have been recorded and the usual black and green lures and damsels have been favoured -- fished mostly on midge tip or intermediate lines.
On Monday, 1st Mr Maitland and partner kept five fish for 17lbs on black and green lures. Gavin Dunn kept four for 12lbs and returned six all on blobs. Regulars Trevor Gibson and Gary Hesletine kept eight fine fish for 30lbs and returned six. Messrs Wilson and Mackintosh kept seven for 20lbs and on Tuesday, Mr Innes had a pristine over wintered rainbow of 6lbs on a black and green lure. Nigel Muckle and partner returned 20 fish on black and green lures on intermediate lines. Brothers John and Robin Lambert kept 5 and returned five,
Ian Dobbie returned 17 on diawl bachs. On the same day Mr Fyvie returned 10 and bank anglers Messrs Anderson and Skedd returned seven and 12 respectfully. Both reported fish in the 4lb – 6lb range. We know of course that a lot of overwintered fish lie along the North bank in the early part of the season.
Wednesday saw Mr Dobbie out again this time returning 25 fish on diawl bachs and Mark Johnston returning 15 on damsels and yellow dancers.
On Thursday Mr Kelly had 10 on a humungous and Mr McCotter returned 17 on various cats.
The Friday boats mostly did well, although I don’t have catch returns for most of them.
Nigel Muckle returned six. Mr Purves and partner kept six for 16lbs and J Mackie kept three for 12lbs. Pike angler Mr Rintoul returned two fish but I have no idea what size.
Bank angler Marty Nelson returned four – one at 5lbs using black and silver cormorants.
