Linlithgow Loch Catch Report - 01/03/2023 – 05/03/2023

We opened on March 1st after many years opening on the 15th, I believe a lot of our customers still think we don’t open till the 15th March. We had a stocking the 23rd and 24th of February prior to opening.

Those hardy anglers anxious to wet a line braved the cold weather and had mixed results, I don’t think they were fishing deep enough as Ryan Craig showed on Sunday 5th, fishing with a Di 5 sweep line and just a blob he returned 8 cracking rainbows saying the fish were deep down on the bed and had leeches on them (an indication of being on the Loch bed).

There were 28 boats out over those days with 49 rods, 19 fish were kept, weighing 76 lbs, and 45 fish were returned. Fish were taking Blobs, Cormorants, and various lure patterns.

The best catches during the week were by George Mackintosh keeping 2 for 7 lbs (one weighing 4½ lbs on an Ace of Spades) and returning 3, most caught on a cat and humungous – see photos.

John Innes on Thursday kept 2 for 5½ and returned a nice Brownie estimated 4-5lb. It took a mini viva just off Rickle island – see photo.

Jimmy Russell and his boat partner on Friday 3rd returning 13 fish caught on various cormorant patterns and again with Trevor Gibson out on Friday kept 3 for 10 lbs 8oz, returning 4.

Saturday saw Dominic McAvoy return 2 fish using a tadpole pattern and a blob – see photo of one estimated about 7 lbs.

Paul Craig mentioned above had an excellent day on Sunday using the right tactics.

Comments by anglers were about connecting with fish but not hooking up.

We continue to stock regularly as seen on our Facebook page
