Linlithgow Loch Catch Report - 12/05/19

Over the last week or so the loch has been fishing really well. The buzzer hatches have now started in earnest and the best flies are now buzzer - diawl bachs – cormorants and FABS. Best lines are floaters and midge tips. The fish are lying fairly high in the water as was found out by Tom Lambert – one of the loch helpers. Tom went out for a throw and fished for a while with an intermediate line with no success. He eventually spotted a couple of backs just breaking the surface so he changed to a floater and immediately started hitting fish so it pays to scan the water even in relatively shallow water. If you are below the fish you won’t catch them.

Last weekend Gilmerton Fly Fishers had a very productive day keeping 27 fish for 62lb and returning a further 21 as catch and release. Falkirk Fly Dressers kept 19 for 44lb plus two on catch and release. Craig Cowan had a busy day returning 30 fish on catch and release. Craig was fishing cormorants behind a FAB.

Jim Russel and Gavin Dunn returned 20 on buzzers. Best fish 6lb and Ian Dobbie returned 17 on daiwl bachs.

The cold east winds kept a lot of mid-week anglers off but the ones who ventured out did quite well.

Jim Frew and partner had seven nice fish for 21lb and Mr Maxwell had a fine four fish limit for 11lb. Messrs Paton and Paton kept six fish for 20lb and Mr Nisbet had a good day returning 12 fish all on buzzers. Aberdour AC who are loch regulars kept 26 fish for 73lb and returned a further 20 on catch and release.

All areas of the loch are fishable and the fish are well spread out. Any angler after over wintered specimens should cover the top end (East end) of the loch before the weed comes up.

Friday, 10th May boats had a good day. Nigel Muckle had 12 on catch and release on cormorants. Robin Smith returned a beautiful over wintered rainbow of around 7lb. The Balbeggie Club with five evening boats kept 42 fish for 106lb and returned a further 20 on catch and release. Best fish was a five pounder.

We continue to stock weekly.

We are now offering evening sessions and four hour sessions at £15 for catch and release and £20 for a two fish kill ticket.
