We opened the loch for the new season on Saturday, 14 March – a day earlier than usual.
The weather was not at all bad but the fishing got off to a fairly slow start, of the anglers who went out Falkirk Fly Dressers had the best day with 15 fish for 42lbs. Unfortunately, I have no record of which flies or lines they were using.
Waders AC kept seven fish for 23lbs mostly on black and green lures. Loch regular Gavin Dunn returned six fish on catch and release all around 3½lb- 4lb including a fine blue. Gavin was fishing an orange blob on a midge tip line. Messrs McIntosh and McDougal fishing snakes kept two fish, for 7lb and returned three on catch and release.
We had five bank anglers out but so far, no catch returns from any of them. They know the rules so we will likely get the information in the fullness of time.
On Sunday, 11 boat anglers caught 37 trout of which 29 were returned. The eight which were kept weighed in at 29lb. So far only one bank angler has declared his catch and that was six returned having used a fast glass line with a black and green snake. The successful boat anglers were catching mainly with fast glass lines using orange blobs, black and green tadpoles or cormorants.
