At the moment fly fishing conditions on the loch are excellent – very good water clarity (2.5m) along with consistent buzzer batches and an abundance of pinfry mean that the trout are very much on the feed for most of the day. Not surprisingly the best flies are still buzzers (black or brown), daiwl bachs (red) and various cormorants. Best lines are floaters or midge tips. The fish are pretty well spread out over the loch but some of our regular anglers are favouring the East end around cormorant island and hatchery bay. This end of the loch is quite shallow so it pays to keep any boat noise to a minimum as the grown-on trout are very easily spooked.
Here is a selection of catches from last week:
On Saturday two guys from the Cormorants Club went out and kept a limit of eight fish for 21lb and returned 15 on catch and release – this on cormorants.
Aberdour AC had a good day keeping 43 fish for 107lb plus 20 on catch and release.
Rosyth AC kept 40 fish for 102lb plus 10 on catch and release using various buzzers and boobies.
Jim Russell and Colin Sneddon on catch and release tickets had eight and 11 fish respectively.
On Monday regular rod Charlie Grosvenor returned 18 on catch and release all on brown buzzers and evening boat Mr McAdam had 15 on catch and release. Trevor Gibson returned 12 with the best fish 5lb and all on daiwl bachs. Mr Pender also returned a dozen.
Evening rod Carl Pohlen kept a superb rainbow of 6½lb. The Grangemouth AC were out on Wednesday and had a busy session keeping 21 fish for 57lb and returning a further 21 on catch and release. On the same day, Tom Easton returned 12 including a sparkling brownie of around 5lb all on buzzers.
Doc Boyle was out on Friday and returned 20 fish on buzzers. On the same day SSEB Angling Club kept 21 fish for 54lb. All areas of the loch are still fishable.
