Saturday, 29th we had a brisk east wind for most of the day. This made angling a wee bit tricky especially for the Ashington Kingfishers AC who came up from Newcastle on a two-day visit. Practice day on the Saturday and competition on the Sunday. Those guys fish under international rules which means no anchoring and a size limit on flies and lures. On Saturday they returned 14 fish mostly on buzzers and sink tip lines. Also out were IBM Freshwater AC who kept 12 fish for 35lb, best fish 4lb on cormorants and buzzers. Prinlaws AC returned 12 on buzzers and crunchers, best fish 4½lbs.
On Sunday, the Newcastle lads had learned from the day before and went out armed with fast sinking lines with various cats and boobies and fished the deep water. They kept 26 fish for 82lbs plus 15 returned. Remarks were made about the quality of the fish.
Ferry Fly Fishers kept 33 fish for 90lbs and returned 25. These mostly on damsels and tequila boobies in the deep water.
Alister Fyvie who is of the old school had three good fish on a silver Invicta and George Peline kept four for 15lb and four returned on buzzers.
On Monday Paul Bell returned 11 and George McKenzie had seven on buzzers. Evening angler Trevor Gibson returned 12 on black and red buzzers.
On Tuesday, Tam Easton returned 11 on a black green lure and Jim Fairley had seven on an olive rabbit.
Thursday evening North Berwick AC kept 17 fish for 19lb on diawl bachs and buzzers.
On Friday the wind had turned to the west and conditions looked good but as usual some anglers did better than others. Mr McKay kept three nice fish for 10lbs on buzzers. Regular Friday man Nigel Muckle returned 11 on cats’ whisker with a fast intermediate line. Robin Smith returned three, Gavin Dunn kept two for 6lb and J McLean kept a three pounder.
