Total rods out: 27. Total fish caught, 89 (15 kept, 74 released). Total weight of kept fish: 41 lbs.
Weather conditions: Warm, bright sunshine with a mostly southwest wind.
Best tactics: Using Floating, Midge-Tip, and Sink-Tip lines.
Flies used:
The most effective flies for the week included: Buzzers, Dries, Cormorants, Muskins, Crunchers, Fabs and various nymphs. Again, Buzzers and Muskins were the most successful, especially olive.
Angler catches:
Monday to Friday
A wee story from Monday: Jimmy Russell came in for lunch having blanked in the morning, had a chat with Ian Dobbie, who advised Jimmy that his leader was too thick, and four flies were too many for the bright sunshine. Ian set up a new finer leader with muskins on two droppers four feet apart with a fab on the point, Jimmy returned 6 trout within three hours with this set up; Karl Pholen out for an evening session kept 1 fish for 2½ lbs and returned 1; Stuart Lawson returned 3 fish; Gordon Fraser with his boat partner released 4 trout; Robin Smith out with George Mackintosh kept 1 fish for 3 lbs and returned 4; Jimmy Russell out with Gavvin Dunn released 9 fish.
Saturday
Waders AC, out in two boats, managed to keep 4 fish weighing 9 lbs 9 oz. Both boats had fish on and lost. Dominic McAvoy and his partner returned 22 trout caught on olive buzzers and olive CDCs.
Sunday:
Ferry Fly Fishers AC’s eight anglers kept 9 fish for 25 lbs 10 oz; Mr McNair and partner returned 17 fish; most of the fish were caught on size 12 brown buzzers; Tam Robinson released 3 trout.
