Linlithgow Loch Catch Report - 03/04/2021

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

This week’s report starts on Saturday, 27 March 2021.

The weather over the last week has again been pretty mixed with some good spells and some not so good. This of course affects the angling. Most anglers are still doing well with black and green lures – damsels and cormorants but some good catches have also been taken on the buzzer. This coincides with the return of the swallows who arrived on the 2 April, slightly earlier than usual. I would normally expect to see them on the 4th. It is good to see them back.

On Saturday, Falkirk Fly Dressers kept 15 trout for 37lbs mostly on boobies and cormorants. Mr Wells had three for 8lb on cormorants. Scott McLauclan and Craig Cowan returned 21 fish again on cormorants and Steven Whitear returned eight on buzzers. Alan Kerr kept a fine limit of four for 14lbs again on buzzers and intermediate line.

Sunday was quieter but Falkirk Municipal had a decent session keeping 19 fish for 51lbs and returning six. Best flies were damsels and black and green lures on midge tip lines.

No anglers went out on Monday but a few ventured out on Tuesday. Best rod was Mr Hepburn returning seven on damsels. On Wednesday, Mr Malcolmson and partner returned 20 fish all on buzzers. Thursday was a cold windy day but Mr McDougall managed a nice four fish limit for 11lbs on cormorants. All the other boats managed two or three fish which was good for the kind of day it was.

Friday was a bright sunny day and being Easter Friday, we were pretty busy. Dr Mike Boyle returned six on damsels, Keith Anderson kept three for 8lbs on lures, Ian Dobbie returned nine on buzzers, Alastair Fyvie and George McFarlane blanked which is very unusual, although, George landed a Trout around the 4lbs -

Mr Saunders returned dix with one around 5lbs and a couple about 4lbs. these on mini dancers. Regular angler Mr Graham returned four fish fishing buzzers with the bung and Mr Burns returned 19 on buzzers and damsels.

We continue to stock weekly and the loch holds a good head of fish. When the Clubs finally manage to travel, they should do alright at Linlithgow.

Boats are available for most days for full day or 4-hour sessions but to avoid disappointment please call 01506 671753 or book online in advance.
